چکیده
We have read with great interest the recent and interesting contribution by Dr. Francia et al. about a case of late cardiac tamponade due to myocardial contusion. We would like to make certain observations regarding a similar case that we have recently treated. A 70-year-old woman came to our emergency department after having undergone the Heimlich maneuver because of choking. Upon admittance, the patient was conscious, oriented, with stable respiratory function and hemodynamics. She only presented mild pain on palpation in the lower sternal region, with no associated signs or symptoms. Three hours after hospitalization, ECG and myocardial enzymes presented no alterations (troponin I: 0.20 ng/ml). Chest X-ray showed a simple sternal fracture in the distal third of the sternum. The patient remained under observation, and after 8 h her enzymes began to rise progressively (troponin I: 0.62),

Paediatric chest wall trauma causing delayed presentation of ventricular arrhythmia
This report describes a paediatric patient presenting with haemodynamically stable non-sustained ventricular tachycardia 1 day after minor blunt chest trauma. Initial laboratory studies, chest X-ray and echocardiography were normal; however, cardiac MRI revealed precordial haematoma, myocardial contusion and small pericardial effusion. Throughout her hospital course, she remained asymptomatic a...
متن کاملEarly detection of myocardial infarction following blunt chest trauma by computed tomography: a case report
BACKGROUND Blunt cardiac trauma encompasses a wide range of clinical entities, including myocardial contusion, cardiac rupture, valve avulsion, pericardial injuries, arrhythmia, and even myocardial infarction. Acute myocardial infarction due to coronary artery dissection after blunt chest trauma is rare and may be life threatening. Differential diagnosis of acute myocardial infarction from card...
متن کاملA case report: hemothorax caused by rupture of the left atrial appendage
Cardiac rupture is defined as a full-thickness myocardial tear; this injury after blunt chest trauma is rare, and is associated with high mortality. Blunt cardiac rupture typically presents with either cardiac tamponade or massive hemothorax, and is often unrecognized in the context of blunt chest trauma. It is a little known fact that pericardial effusions can decrease due to pericardial lacer...
متن کاملInvestigation of histopathological and radiological effects of surfactant treatment in an experimental female rat model of lung contusion
Objective(s): Pulmonary contusion (PC) is a clinical entity that often accompanies blunt traumas. We aimed to investigate the radiological and histopathological effects of surfactant treatment in an experimental rat model in which lung contusion was formed by blunt thoracic trauma.Materials and Methods: 50 female Sprague-Dawley rats were...
متن کاملIsolated pericardial rupture with left-sided haematothorax after blunt chest trauma.
Pericardial rupture after blunt chest trauma is described in the literature. The rupture is mostly caused by high velocity trauma with associated injuries. As a result the patients are often critically ill. We describe a case of a 59-year-old man who suffered from an isolated pericardial rupture with a left-sided haematothorax diagnosed 3 months after minimal blunt chest trauma. The patient was...
